A couple words with Dylan Davies

I have known Dylan Davies since I was in seventh grade. He works harder than anyone I know and it shows in his work. He's been a giant influence on me and this site probably wouldn't exist if it weren't for him. Anyways, this isn't the last you'll be hearing of him. If you're from Vancouver you might recognize these photos from Night Vision II.

Who: Dylan Davies

What: SKATEBOARDS BIKES PALS DOCUMENTING THINGS

When: RIGHT NOW FRIENDS

Where: CURRENTLY VANCOUVER, WILLING TO TRAVEL IF YOU'RE WILLING TO FUND

Why: I REALLY LIKE MAKING PHOTOGRAPHS

How: SILVER BASED (!)

You can see more of Dylan's work on his flickr or website, but neither have been updated in a while. Or just come over, I've got a really nice 18x24 print up on my wall.

Putting in work for Imaginary

The lovely and talented Hannah Davis (who we interviewed way back when) asked me to guest curate a set for Imaginary Zine. She's just relaunched the whole project and it's looking great. Go check out their features or click on the picture below to see what I put together.

Steve Sachs Leaves Suburbia

After keeping tabs on his seemingly infinite series of suburban cliches and "where the fuck did you find that in the middle of the afternoon" photographs, I asked Steve to do an exclusive series for Blood of the Young. Dude straight up punk'd me and took a train to New York. He came back with some pretty pictures and words of wisdom.

I spent the summer photographing the suburbs.

The work that came out of those months is decidedly serious.

This week I decided to get drunk and photograph New York City.

Sometimes it’s nice to just take pictures of graffitied penises.

Gordon Ball at Sleeping Giant

Gordon Ball's solo show, I am sorry. Sincerely, Frankenstein, opened last night in Toronto at Sleeping Giant Gallery. We went to check it out and took some pictures for you. It runs until September 25th and you should go see it.

Spotted some Kilmer on the way over.

Sleeping Giant was really loud and packed full of people. Too hard to get decent pictures of much of the work, that's for sure.

Please note the hardcore Nelly fan bandaid to the far right.

Even the dudes from the Roger's commercials were there spilling beer all over themselves. Smooth move, bro.

Mr. Dimitri Karakostas.

Goodnight Gordon and Sleeping Giant!

Some BOTY news

Hey everybody. I just wanted to let everyone know some things. Although it may look like we've been slacking, we will be releasing a book of new prints at the end of this month. Its called Exteens and there will be more information about it soon.

We are also working on a show to celebrate Nuit Blanche this October here in Toronto at Dimitri's new space. If you're in town (or out of town) and want to submit some work or help us out, get in touch.
Later this week I will also be posting a few zine reviews and give-aways. Things are starting to pile up over here so its about time you get to see it all too.
Feel free to email us if you have any questions or criticisms.

Hey Berlin

William Hundley has a new Solo show opening in Berlin at Galerie Hunchentoot on Sept. 18, 2009. If someone gets photos from the opening for this one, email them over. Hundley rules.

Like Lipstick Traces NYC

The release for Like Lipstick Traces happens tonight in NYC. Sort of a late pass on our part, but check it out if you're in NY. I'd love a copy of that book, damn.

"Like lipstick traces shows the everyday life of 13 graffiti writers... The idea was to send a Polaroid camera and about one hundred Polaroid photos to graffiti writers of different nationalities, with the task to shoot their everyday life, and to give them complete freedom in the choice of the motifs."
With photos from: REMIO, SCAN, KEGR, O’CLOCK, AROE , C.B.S, DUMBO, HONET, OS CURURUS, RATE, ROCKY, SMASH, THE E.R.S

Bobby Doherty vs. Google Image Search

The internet is a beautiful place.

How did you begin to create these astounding pixelated works of art?
weed.

What are some key words you search for when trying to find the shit
you want?

it really depends. maybe words like 'very' or 'really' or 'the.'
example: the very really crying prom date.

I'm glad we share the same appreciation for the worst (best?) font ever, Comic Sans MS.
i can't wait until we resurrect jesus or einstein or something and they
fucking love comic sans. especially in power point presentations. but no
one has the heart to tell them that it is the pitts. and when someone
does, they will be soooooo red.

Describe Facebook in three words.
you x 1,000,000,000.

So you saw Britney Spears live? Was it everything you dreamed it would be?
i expected more tweens. i wanted more tweens.

Nervous White Dads is pretty dead on.
Are there any techniques you & Ryan Gaffney use to find these dudes?

there is some kind of special holographic pokémon bond that me and ryan
gaffney share. i think we both might have had some pretty nervous white
dads too. it's not that hard to find these guys on the internet.
sometimes it gets a little racist. but when it really comes down to it,
i think they find us.

Let us have an exclusive Bobby Doherty weird ass JPEG thing!
okay...so here is what i did guys. so i was curious after i answered
question two: so i actually looked up 'the very really crying prom
date.' and then i found the picture of the girl crying into the phone
and was like, duh. and then a few more pages in i found the girl with
the finger puppets and it genuinely made me happy to look at her so i
put that smiley on her. i'm way into droppin photoshop shadows so i did
that. then i thought about the girl some more and her head reminded me
of a cookie so then i found one of those and stuck it in there. promdate.jpg

For more of his genius (and some pretty pictures), check Bobby's FLICKR.
