An Interview with Katya Ford

Katya Ford lives in Moscow and has a really strange blog of photographs. I finally got around to asking some questions about her work.

Your photographs seem to work more in pairs or groups rather than just individual images, would you agree?

Yes, I think so. Most of my photographs are senseless. They're just capturing the moments of my life and nothing more. I like using different cameras, trying different effects and sizes. Some kind of a mess is really what I like. But I wish I could organize myself and do something "smarter."

Most of your work seems to have really dark undertones, is that intentional?

Haha, no! I don't know how I do this actually. If someone uses my camera the colours are very bright and saturated. Perhaps it's something inside me and everything I do contains this darkness. But I'm satisfied though.

Are you into horses? They seriously freak me out, I cannot handle that shit.

I'm into cats as well.

Do you think living in Moscow or Russia in general has any influence
on your photographs? Is that a stupid question?

That is a hard question. It would be stupid saying that the place that you live in doesn't have any influences on your work. I'm always inspired by the environment, no matter where I am. But I like everything new. Actually I can't live without having new emotions and experiences. I know that I can do more things and do them better and I hope that I can do something I can't even imagine.

This series of photographs is probably my favorite on your blog:

Can you talk about it a little bit?

That was the period of time when I wanted to shoot everything with a big zoom and it was only an experiment. I was shooting welders from my window, while they were working. I was fascinating by the sparks.

Any last words of wisdom?

Too many words for me already.

Check out 66kf, Katya Ford is on to some next level shit!
